Mahabub College HIgh School located at R.P.Road has been a great institution from 1862 and it has been instrumental in creating world class leaders and great intellectuals. Presently this institution has been subject to evil eyes of Land Sharks and its latest report in Times of India dated 4th April'11 is a clear vindication of the facts being stated above. This particular case has been filed at the advise and behest of our Alumni to regain and revive the past glory of this great institution.

Here I would like to inform you that I have sent a correspondence to the GHMC on 16th April'2010 clearly stating the facts that "Changing the nature of Mahbub College High School play ground at R.P.Road by constructiong long shed with pillars deep into the ground, without any permission causing threat to the existing Heritage Structure (Photographs enclosed)"

Till date there has been no response from your end. Continuation to this fact the management has been irresponsible and has violated against the court orders and have completed the construction of the shed which is now being used for Marriage Functions, Religious Functions, Valet Parking Lots for the near by shopping Malls etc.,. This has deprived the students of Mahbub College institution their fundamental right to have a play ground. We have taken up this matter with the present Managing Committee of Mahbub College High School who inturn have deprived us to conduct our regular meeting in side our own Institution.

Apart from this we would like to know the permission status granted to all the new present structures in Mahbub College Premises. The additional information we would like to support you with is SVIT is a tenant in the premises of MCHS and this particular institution, its Managing Committee is succeding in converting the School premises into a commercial establishments and enjoying monetary benefit with out being accountable to GHMC Tax paying system. SVIT has constructed three huge new buildings apart from this Shed, here we would like to know the building permissions granted by the concerned Town Planning Staff with complete information apart from their PTIN number and their regular payment towards property tax. You are also aware that near by shopping Malls like "Chennai Shopping", "Chandana Bros" etc., are utilising the premises for their parking and monetary exchanging has been happenning between the Managing Committee and these retail institutions for which there are no records. In case they are available at your - GHMC end, we request you to furnish us with complete details.

Fourteen Heritage Buildings identified Sunday, Jun 04, 2006

Staff Reporter

These are in addition to 137 buildings, nine precincts, notified earlier

HYDERABAD: From a list of 20 structures identified in the city by the Hyderabad Urban Development Authority (HUDA), the Government has issued orders notifying 14 as Heritage Buildings. These buildings are in addition to the 137 buildings and nine precincts notified earlier.

The latest list of heritage structures includes a number of structures in Secunderabad, which is celebrating its 200th year.

The hoary Mahbub College, once a seat of English education, itself accounts for three buildings - P. Ramachandra Pillai Memorial Hall, C. V. Padma Rao Memorial Hall and Muthiala Raman Memorial Hall (Mahbub College).

The other Secunderabad monuments include - Old Jail Complex (Monda Market), Wesley Church Complex (Secunderabad) and St. Mary's Presbytery (St. Anns School)

St. George's Grammar School Complex (Abids), Mr. Krishna Reddy's Building (Mehdipatnam), Bhoiguda Kamaan (Mangalhaat), IAS Officers Association Building (Greenlands), Mitti ka Sher, Nampally Sarai, Sheik Faiz ki Kamaan (Yakuthpura) and Ghode ki Qabar (Pan Mandi).

The HUDA Vice-Chairman had reported 20 additional buildings for notification as additional Heritage Buildings and after taking the opinion of Heritage Conservation Committee, newspaper notifications were issued inviting public objections and suggestions.

After receipt of objections/suggestions and consideration of the same, it was proposed to declare only 16 buildings as Heritage Buildings, the order noted. However, the Government, which also received objections and requests on consideration, decided to declare only 14 buildings as Heritage Buildings, it said.

  1. Mahbub College, alumni at war-SHREYA DUTT-DECCAN CHRONICLE

Ex-students are outraged at the college management for selling out to private institutions
T he Mahbub College management has come under many brick-bats recently from its alumni. Not only has enrolment dropped, but the alumni also claim that they have been selling out to private organisations -reportedly by renting out space to other institutions and its grounds for public functions. “The school rooms were empty because of dwindling numbers. So, we decided to allow the Swami Vivekananda Institute of Technology (SVIT) and a management college, which is a part of the Mahbub College group, to use the space,“ says Mr C.B. Namdev, president of the managing committee of the college.

The school management has also constructed a shed on the playground to facilitate large meetings. “We let it out for weddings when the school is shut,“ says Dr Premnarayana, managing committee member, explaining, “We need to supplement the income generated by the school.“

But the alumni are heartbroken -even outraged -at the change. The management seems to be at war with them, barring entry even to those who have been supporting the school with scholarships and prizes for students. “We used to give a cash prize to the students. When we went for the alumni meet, we weren't allowed into the premises. We are also not allowed to give the prize that we used to give. We conducted our meeting on the steps outside our school,“ says alumnus Mr. Nityanandam.

Ashwin Nallari, an ex-student whose mother was a teacher at the school, is spear heading the movement to protect the College building, which is a declared Heritage Building.

Others are advocating a revamp of academic standards. Alumni Mr. Dinesh Vijaypurkar and Mr. K.
Parthasarathy say that the school needs to impart a broader education, recalling that they were taught “carpentry and were pushed to excel in sports -cricket, volleyball, throwball...“ while at Mahbub School, and bemoaning that “now there are no grounds“ for sports and “the labs lie in shambles“.

Satyarayana Kollipara, from the batch of 1938, remembers the school offering “the best education that a middle-class parent could afford,“ and having “the largest playground of any school in the twin city area.“ He adds, “It taught us the life skills that we needed in life, and they still stand me in good stead.“

  3. I am appalled, as an alumnus of the school, to hear about these distressing developments. The school is clearly being run by a group of moneychangers who have scant regard for the illustrious traditions of the school. I understand the quality of education imparted to students has deteriorated so badly, that only a handful of students were able to get get decent grades this year. The management has a misplaced sense of priorities. It is time to get rid of the people in charge and replce them with a group that is not bankrupt of sensible ideas. It is time for all alumni to band together and fight a good battle. I stand ready to do my part! Satish Udpa Batch of 1966
